Bienvenue à Paris!

Bienvenue à Paris or welcome in Paris, city of love!

The company decided it was better to keep the meetings in the capital of France, and I am so thankful for that! Three girls in Paris, city of love, Louis Vuitton, macaroons,… What else do we need?!

I just love it here! We have visited like almost everything and I am so glad that we are staying for another day. When we thought about Paris, we thought shopping, the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysées,… but now I am here, I realise it is so much more!

When we arrived here the day before yesterday at night, we left our luggage in our room, took the metro and went to the Champs Elysées. This is like one of the most famous streets in the world, but also one of the most expensive. Lots of luxury specialty shops are located here, like Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Hugo Boss, Swarovski,… Obviously, we did not buy anything but I just loved strolling over the boulevard.

At both ends of the Avenue des Champs Elysées you find a well-known monument, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. We went to Trocadéro, where you have an amazing view on the Eiffel Tower and (of course) we took some pictures, I have put the prettiest picture below my post!

Did you know that the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889? It was built as the entrance arch to the World Fair of 1889 and nowadays it has become a global cultural icon of France and even one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower is the tallest structure in Paris and also the most visited monument in the world. In 2011, 7.1 million people ascended the tower. This is partially due to the film industry which has made lots of movie scenes in the neighbourhood of the Eiffel Tower.

At the western end of the Champs Elysées, you have the Arc de Triomphe de l’Etoile. This Triumphal Arch honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and outer surfaces of the Arch, the names of all French victories and generals are inscribed. Beneath the Arc de Triomphe, lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I. Under the Arch, there is an eternal burning flame for those who died. Did you know that it has only been extinguished once? This was by a drunken Mexican football supporter on the evening of Paris – Mexico, when France beat Mexico.
