Italy: Hello Europe!

I liked the holiday in Africa but it is kind of a relief that we are back in Europe again. I am also very glad that we can enjoy the Italian cuisine: the pasta, the pizza and the tiramisu.

Italian is the official language of Italy. When you have a little knowledge of French, Spanish, English or Latin, you will be able to understand the Italian language.
If you don’t speak Italian at all, you will be able to make yourself understandable because the Italians can speak some English. Nevertheless when you are in the smaller hotels you have to learn some basic Italian phrases.

Italy is a very religious country and you can see religious aspects in the art, architecture and the government. An example is ‘The creation of Adam’ from Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. Roman Catholicism is the largest religion and the seat is in Vatican City in Rome where the Pope resides. It obviously can’t be denied that Italians are firm believers in their faith.

When I talk about the Italian cuisine, you may think of the Chianti wines, amaretto, espresso, cappuccino, macchiato and of course the delicious variety of pastas and pizzas. To be honest, I have tasted it all and I liked it!
You can find here some of the oldest wine regions in the world and Italy has overtaken France as the world’s biggest wine producing country. The Italian wine is exported all over the world and is very popular. The grapes are grown almost everywhere in the country.

Elegance is in the Italian blood and almost every Italian wants to achieve this.
Fashion is almost the national passion. Italy is also the founding country of the most impressive fashion houses such as Armani, Gucci, Versace, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana … Few fashion conscious Italians would buy something trendy when it is not durable and genuine.
The shopping and fashion city of Europe is obviously Milan.
It is the second largest city of Italy and a paradise for shopping.
You can find there the oldest shopping mall ‘Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II’ and this arcade is absolutely wonderful.
Not only the Italian Fashion houses are known, but also the car brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, fiat, Alfa Romeo… Who wouldn’t like to own a Ferrari?

Now we are going to France!

  1. It is definitely true it is not very difficult to learn Italian. Sometimes it happened I could understand a few things they said. After those days in Italy, I learned already some vocabulary. Nevertheless I have also heard that it takes years before you get along. In Italy there is a lot of beautiful art, you must have seen. When you are in Italy, just try some specialties, like Marieke said: Chianti wines, amaretto, espresso, macchiato, pizza, pastas, and so on. Make your holiday completely Italian.
For the woman among ourselves, you must have seen the fashion houses. We have seen it and I found it wonderful. Italy, is just the place to be!
