French culture

We are now in the capital of France and I love it here!

The official language of France is of course French. The Académie française is very strict to behold the standard of the language purity. The Academy has taken some actions to promote the French culture and language.

The Roman Catholicism has always had a big role in France. Most people are Roman Catholic Christians and it still has a high value.
However the Roman Catholicism is no longer considered to be the state religion because of the French Revolution.
The second largest religion in France is the Islam. France has the biggest percentage Muslim population of Western European.

The French people enjoy traditional food and France is of course known for the ‘haute cuisine’. When you think of excellent food, you think of the Michelin stars which origins from France in the 19th century.
France is also famous for its delicious wines. The country has lost the first position of largest wine producing country to Italy. French wine producers fabricate between 50 and 60 million hectolitres per year. The wine has an ancient history and it dates back from the 6th century.
Not only the wine is famous in France, but also the champagne. This is more expensive than wine and is made in the Champagne region of France.

France has also famous fashion houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermès, Dior, Givenchy… You can find stores of all of them in Paris. I really love shopping there but I think these brands are a little too expensive…

We went to the Louvre museum where you can see a lot of impressive paintings such as the Mona Lisa, The Raft of the Medusa, the Lacemaker and also the painting ‘Liberty leading the people’ from Delacroix. This is a very symbolic and important painting to France. It signifies the end of the French Revolution.

See you next time!

  1. I wish I could stay a few days longer. Promise me we'll come back some day?
I have to say, I didn't expect the Louvre to be so HUGE, did you? I'm happy we didn't get lost. I have to say we have had our weird moments, like the camel incident, I wouldn't have been surprised if we got lost in the Louvre!
