La Bella Italia

Right now we are halfway of our trip. The country we visited was Italy. In this country we did not stayed on the same place. We visited a lot of cities. It was amazing.

Our first city was
Rome. I have never been in Rome before, so I was very curious how it would be. Rome is the capital of the country Italy. Rome has a Mediterranean climate, so on the moment we were there the temperature was around 20 °C. We have visited Saint Peter’s Square and we also saw the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican. This was very impressive. Normally the pope prays at 12 o’clock. Then everyone comes together and receives the blessing of the pope. Sad to say we couldn’t experience this. Next to that we have also visited the museum “Musei Capitolini”. I found it nice to see it, but it was not really what I expected from it.

Tuscany is my favorite one. I can really enjoy the landscape, watching the houses you see in the distance. This city is one of the top vacation destinations in Italy.
In Northern Tuscany, we went to the famous Pisa. We went to some parks and statues. At the end of the day we make a walk along the river. To finish Tuscany we went to Siena. We stayed at the Arcobaleno Hotel. The hotel is situated in walking distance of the center. In Siena we wandered through the alleys, so we could enjoy everything we saw. At the end of the day we went to the heart of Siena, Piazza del Campo. There we have eaten in a very good restaurant.

The first thing we did when we arrived in Florence, was going for shopping. Such a lovely city to enjoy the shops. During the shopping we saw some beautiful monuments. By approaching the evening we have admired the oldest bridge, Ponte Vecchio. It is not that special, unless you want go to the over-priced jewellery shops and enjoy the crowd of tourists. We went to the Galleria dell’Accademia and watched the statue of David. I really think you must have seen it.
We have seen the Basilica di San Miniato al Monte. You have to do a lot of stairs, but when you finally arrive above, you have a beautiful view over the city. Above you have also the old, attractive church. It was certainly worth to do the effort.

San Marino is a total different city. The city is densely populated, I am of the opinion that this makes it pleasant. On certain points you have a nice view over the landscapes.

The first thing we wanted to do in Milan, was taking a walk in the park, Parco Semione. Over there we just relaxed and enjoyed the good weather.
The day after we went to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a huge shopping arcade.
We also went to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. It is the football stadium of AC Milan. They also call it ‘San Siro’, probably because it is situated in the district San Siro. The name ‘Giuseppe Meazza’ was named in honour of the footballer. He was the best in the years 30.
Nevertheless there are not a lot of tourists in Milan, there are some really beautiful places and nice activities.

When people talk about Italy, most of the people immediately think about Venice. Maybe it is justified. When you have been there, you will never forget it. We had to take the boat to get there. The trip to Venice was not that good for me, because I went seasick. When we arrived, I suddenly felt much better. You have so many lovely places. You have the different bridges, the churches, the market stalls and little shops. Of course we can’t forget Piazza San Marco with the Basilica, the principal place  of Venice.

You have so many things to do and to see in Italy. If you have never been there, it is high time to do it.
