Djerba : dream beaches with wild palms!

After all our wild and sometimes dangerous adventures in Africa, we are ready for some rest!
In the heart of the Mediterranean we find the magical and truly unique island: Djerba. There, simplicity and peace go hand in hand, so the ultimate place to relax.
Tunisia is a dream for those who loves the sun, so I'm at my place.

When we arrived at Djerba we understood immediately why this country is called a paradise by the travel agencies: the palm-fringed beaches are beautiful!

The scenery of Djerba is very Mediterranean. Djerba is characterized by dream beaches with wild palms. On the coast are a lot of palms,1.2 million in total.

Along the beaches of Djerba, there are many luxurious hotels located. Also our hotel was situated along the beach. When we went into the sea for a refreshing swim, we noticed that the sea is warm and shallow. You can do a lot of water sports like diving, water skiing, jet-skiing, ...
Although it's tempting to sunbath the whole day on these beautiful beaches, it is not the only thing to do in Djerba.

Beaches of Zarzis
Djerba has many renovated roads, so we went to visit several sights. First we went to Zarzis, a beautiful seaside town bordering on a sprawling palm grove. Zarzis has beautiful, long sandy
beaches, charming traditions and comfortable hotels with a typical architecture.

Matmata

The second place we visited was Matmata. In Matmata, the homes are carved into the walls of large pits that were dug back into the scorched valley. An extremely fascinating landscape!

25 km away is the area of Toujane even more impressive: there we see ghorfa's above a high mountain with a small fort. The property offers a magnificent, majestic sight.

Ksar Ghilane
We also went to Ksar Ghilane. Thanks to the thermal source, this oasis surrounded by sand is a refreshing rest in the middle of the desert. This was truly a wonderful place to visit!

I would stay forever in Djerba but the next destination calls already! Up to the land of romance : Italy.

  1. I was totally in love with this isle. Yes indeed, the large number of wild palms is really unbelievable. You still know you couldn’t believe your eyes when we arrived?
I really liked the hotel we stayed at. It was like a paradise. Oh I still remember Matmata, it was incredible. We have had an amazing time and we have seen a lot of beautiful things. We should go back over there. And you… you should also go experiencing Djerba.
